We have recently added Low Dose Immunotherapy (LDI) to our practice at Revolutions Naturopathic and it has been a real game-changer for many of my patients. The most profound results I have witnessed are in patients who have a sensitivity to a particular food or airborne inhalant (like pollen or grasses). If you are a person who has had relief from removing a particular food from your diet but are struggling to avoid that food in your daily life or have multiple food sensitivities, this therapy can help reduce your sensitivity. This means you can potentially eat those foods again!
If springtime is the worst time of year for you, now (fall/winter) is the time to reduce your sensitivity to airborne allergens, before they are an issue again. This is because LDI can sometimes cause a low-level short-lived flare, leading to your body acclimating to and accepting the allergen as a non-dangerous item. (It’s like getting small doses of that special someone who you might not care for too much, but over time you become desensitized, and their grinding habits become endearing qualities.) In reality, it is better to have this type of exposure happen when you’re not already being inundated by your allergens. Whether or not the flare happens is also an important finding which helps the practitioner determine the appropriate dose of the LDI for you specifically.
LDI is a gentle, safe, oral therapy that is administered in office about every 7 weeks that will increase the tolerance of your immune system, leading to less reactivity, and fewer symptoms. I am very excited about this therapy and the results that I have had with it so far.
