We (Don’t) Want the Funk: Natural Deodorant

I have to start this article by saying that Dr. Young is a super-genius.   I daresay I have probably told a few of you that I was in between natural deodorants at some point and not willing to get too close.  The one thing I have battled with is how to live in a society where natural scent can be considered offensive and a sign of poor hygiene knowing how deep the research confirms that the toxins in deodorant increase cancer risk.  I want to be healthy and focused on improving patient health rather than dealing with my own complications.  I have spent hours comparing what ewg.org has to say compared to what is available in the deodorant aisle at whole foods and trader joe’s.  The problem is that every natural deodorant I have tried either poops out in a few months or requires a re-application mid-day.

I was lamenting to Dr. Young one day and she said that she had created a simple homemade formula that even lasted through the day in the triple digit Phoenix summers!   What is this magic?!?!?  Well she made me a batch of her cream deodorant and I have to say I AM IN LOVE!!!!!  It works…ALL DAY!!!!!  And is also a pretty good antiperspirant.

We have started making the deodorant in batches here in the office and have it for sale now.  In the interest of full disclosure, for those of you who don’t want to purchase this from us you can make it at home using baking soda, shea butter, coconut oil, and tea tree oil.
