‘Tis the season for sweater shopping, silly and delicious lattes (whose name will not be uttered here), a return to cooler weather, and for children and some adults to go back to school. This is also the season where we start to see more colds and flus coming into the office.
If the thought of an autumn cold or flu is an all too familiar one, be sure to stock up on my top two favorite immune support supplements:
1. Elderberry syrup- it’s the most delicious immune supportive supplement for fall – no joke. Even my toddler loves this stuff. It’s his “purple juice”. It is safe for adults, pregnant women, and children (so long as it is free of honey if the child is less than 1 year of age)
2. A good quality probiotic. School children who took a probiotic averaged fewer colds and flus and missed fewer days than their non-probiotic taking cohorts.
It’s also a great time to get those vitamin D levels checked before heading into wintertime. Once the winter clothes go on, you have less available skin to absorb that precious sunlight vitamin and levels can drop, even here in sunny California. If your vitamin D levels get too low, you are more prone to those nasty viruses floating around as well as more fatigued in general.
