MTHFR and B-Vitamin Injections

B-12 Injections can be a great way to introduce vitamins into the body without having to digest them.  Injections and intravenous infusions of vitamins and minerals are completely absorbed because they don’t have to go through the gastrointestinal system.  This is hugely beneficial for patients who have any kind of absorption or digestion issue.  It can also be very beneficial if you have a genetic defect which interferes with your conversion of folic acid to methyltetrahydrofolate (MTHF).  This defect is more common among people suffering from anxiety and depression, as well as patients with poor cardiovascular health.  Patients who have this deficiency need extra B-vitamins in their active form, especially L-methyltetrahydrofolate as well as specific minerals to support this pathway.

So, how does your body use B Vitamins?

  • B vitamins support your liver’s detoxification pathways
  • They feed your mitochondria so that you can have energy throughout the day
  • They support your serotonin pathway so that you can feel emotionally balanced
  • They help your nervous system function optimally
  • They help your body optimize your cholesterol production

Given that B vitamins are so vital to health, it’s amazing that MTHFR testing is not more commonplace.  However, it is currently considered a specialty lab.  If you’re interested in MTHFR testing or just want to try B-12 injections for an extra boost of energy, give us a call and schedule an appointment.
