Age Related Health Tips:

20’s: Diet is important, cannot stress how important it is to ensure that your diet is balanced. Ensure you are consuming an adequate amount of fiber, protein and antioxidant rich foods. Make sure to eat those veggies and choose lean sources of protein. Get an initial blood pressure measurement to ensure cardiovascular health is good. If you smoke, better quit while you’re ahead! Get the down low on your family’s health history; your parents, siblings and grandparents. This is important information for you to know as you age.

30’s: Maintaining healthy weight is critical as we age.  Get your blood pressure and body mass index checked to ensure you’re trending on a positive note. Do self checks to your testes and check  for testicular masses each month, especially important for younger men.

40’s: Time to get a little more in depth with your health. Obtain baseline cholesterol and your fasting blood sugar numbers. Something we all dread but time for your initial prostate exam, and remember to be proactive in maintaining a healthy weight.

50’s: Continue checking cholesterol, blood sugar and body mass index. Speak with your naturopathic doctor or family doctor about assessing your risk for colorectal cancers and which screening is most appropriate for you.

60’s: In contrast with all  the other general health screenings, consider checking your bone density if your healthcare provider feels that it may be indicated.

70+: Speak to your naturopathic or medical doctor and see which screening exams are required. Stay vigilant, active and continue to involve yourself with activities you enjoy to enrich your body and mind. Keep up with your social connections, this is vital to your health as we get older.
