Patients who are struggling to stay hydrated due to an illness often find hydration IVs to be very beneficial. Intravenous hydration allows patients to regain necessary fluids much quicker than is possible through drinking alone. Another added benefit for ill patients is that the IVs bypass the gastrointestinal tract, and therefore the delivery of hydration is not affected by stomach illnesses which prevent water retention. Hydration IVs can also be given to athletes as a preventive measure during preparation for a strenuous athletic event.
